Suzanna Katz, Ph.D.

Qualifications and Experience

Her career has centered on advancing biomedicine through her work as a researcher, innovator, educator, and consultant. These roles have given her a unique perspective on the journey from foundational discovery to translational application, especially in oncology. Her contributions include her role in discovering a novel anti-cancer therapy using a repurposed drug, which led to a U.S. patent. Her doctoral research focused on developing in vitro disease models and tools to find effective treatments, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) for malignant cells. To support this work, she led a cross-disciplinary team to develop and validate a new, open-source photoirradiation system and live adherent cell microplate assay designed for high-throughput, precisely programmable photobiology experiments, such as screening photosensitive compounds and analyzing the biological effects of different wavelengths and their combinations in cancer cells. Her expertise in biomedicine also extends to the commercial and translational sectors, where she has influenced product development and business strategy as a biomedical consultant. This unique blend of hands-on scientific research, therapeutic discovery, and strategic consulting provides a solid foundation to contribute to the goals of grants.
